Little Lamb Preschool AM 3's Information - 2012-2013

ART

We believe in process orientated art for young children; the essential thing in preschool is the experience of using the materials.  Therefore, our art projects may be messy, and your child will have as little assistance as possible.  Most of the time art is optional, and it is a choice during Free Choice Time.  Occasionally, when making a parent gift or special project, we will strongly encourage all the children to participate in art.

CLASSROOM JOBS/HELPERS

Each child will have several opportunities to help with classroom jobs.  The job will be the student’s responsibility for the entire week.  Examples of jobs available are: Helping Hand (Calendar/Weather), Snack Helper, Pet Helper, and Line Leader.

GUESS & SHARE

Guess & Share is our version of Show and Tell.  When it is your child’s turn for Guess & Share, he/she will bring home the cloth Guess & Share bag.  Inside the bag will be a slip of paper describing what to do for this activity.  Please assist your child in choosing one item to put in the bag.  Also, help your child to come up with three hints to give to the other children.  Write the hints on the slip of paper and return it with the bag.  Help your child think of clues by asking questions like:  What color is it?  Does it have wheels?  Is it hard or soft?  What do you do with it?  Please send the Guess & Share bag with your child the very next day of school.

STAR OF THE WEEK

Each child will have the opportunity to be Star of the Week once during the school year.  Your child’s week will be posted at Little Lamb, and a reminder will be sent home the week prior.   You should receive a Star of the Week poster to complete with your child.  Return the posters at your convenience.  On Tuesday, your child will share the Star of the Week poster and any special item from home.  On Thursday, we invite your entire family to come and spend the day at Little Lamb.  This is a fun way to celebrate each child.

HOMEWORK

Each month from September through April (excluding December), your child will bring home a parent and child homework activity.  This is a simple activity to do at home with your child.  The activity will be sent home in an envelope labeled with your child’s name.  Please return the homework and envelope before the end of the month.  We will display the homework at school or create class books with the homework page.

OBSERVING AND HELPING

After November 1st, when the children are well settled into the classroom routine, parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom.  At the end of October a notice will be posted asking for volunteers to sign up for a Tuesday.  This is optional, but it is a fun way to see what we do at Little Lamb.  Parents are also asked to help with class parties and special events.  Notices of these requests will be posted before the event.

FAMILY INVOLVEMENT HOURS

Each Little Lamb 3’s family is required to complete 8 hours of volunteer work for the school.  There is a F.A.I.T.H hours Binder at Little Lamb.  Each family is responsible for recording their hours as they complete them.  There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the school year.  Any time you spend volunteering or participating in Little Lamb events counts toward your F.A.I.T.H. Hours.  Opportunities will be posted on the parent board or included in the class newsletters.

BIRTHDAYS

During the school year, we will celebrate your child’s birthday as close to the actual date as possible.  The birthdays are listed on the snack calendar.  When it is your child’s birthday, feel free to send in special birthday napkins with your child.   We will follow the Little Lamb Snack Schedule for snack the day of the birthday and will serve items from our Safe Snack List.    Birthdays are celebrated by using our puppet, Jake in the Birthday Cake, by singing Happy Birthday/God’s Blessings, and by presenting a sticker and card to your child.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated on a designated day in May.

OPTIONAL

In the past some parents have brought in birthday ‘treats’ to pass out to the class.  If you would like to do this on your child’s birthday, please make sure the treat is a non-food item.  We recommend sending in just one item.  Some examples could be a book, coloring book, bubbles, small toy, sticker sheet, etc.
