As a recent graduate from St. John School, I feel that I was well prepared both educationally and spiritually for attending a public high school. St. John provides a positive, upbeat and quality education centered around Christ. The work ethic instilled at St. John is beyond outstanding. The science and math programs are extremely advanced and gave me an extensive background, which was helpful for high school courses. Class trips and working in small groups provided me with opportunities to learn how to work with a diverse group of people. Rachel -- 2006 St. John graduate, now at Urbana High School My name is Erin and I attended St. John Lutheran School from preschool through eighth grade. I am currently a freshman at the High School of St. Thomas More. The experiences I had at St. John helped to prepare me for high school. The junior high math classes prepared me to enroll in the honors geometry class. I am also doing well in my English and Social Studies classes. With the reports, projects, and papers I had written, I was able to learn what was necessary for high school. Today, my high school teachers tell me that I have transferred from middle school to high school academics very nicely. St. John also offered me the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, band, and Student Council. I am finding these experiences also gave me the confidence to participate in student organizations at St. Thomas More. Spiritually, my grade school teachers and my family helped to shape my religious beliefs. Entering high school has not changed that. I continue to grow stronger in my faith toward Jesus Christ. St. John was a great experience for my brothers and me. Along with preparing me academically, it also introduced me to athletic competition, Christian friends, and even an awesome trip to Washington, D.C. Upon entering high school I was prepared both socially and academically. I am in the top 10% of my class and have played two varsity sports as well as competing with the marching band. This is all thanks to the early opportunities I had at St .John. I will always be grateful for the caring teachers and the terrific friends I made. In my years at St. John Lutheran School, I was exposed to a wide variety of classes that were offered. Classes ranged from Spanish to English and literature to math and science. The foreign language and math curriculum were two courses offered that were definitely a help when it came time for high school. The Spanish curriculum, for me, started when I was just in third grade. Because it was offered so early in my education, I was able to enter into Spanish Two instead of Spanish One, like many other freshmen at the time. The early start, in addition, has helped me become one of the top students in my Spanish class. Also, an accelerated math class was offered in the math curriculum at St. John, allowing me to enter into a higher level math class as a freshman. These two classes have helped me tremendously in my high school career, and have helped me become one of the top students in my class. Jane – 2005 St. John graduate, now at Centennial High School
I attended St. John Lutheran School from preschool through 8th grade, and going there has done so much for me. St. John is Christ-centered and helped me grow in my faith. I still maintain that strong faith today, thanks to the dedication and care of all my teachers. The solid academic education I received helped me prepare for high school and properly set the foundation for my whole life. I have also gained many great friendships through St. John. Overall, St. John Lutheran School helped me be a better person. Jordan –2005 St. John graduate, now at Central High School
--St. John Lutheran School prepares you well academically. Each night you had a little bit of homework, nothing time consuming or stressful but enough to form excellent study habits. --St. John prepares you well spiritually. By receiving a religious devotion and class each day, each student's faith continually grows. --It's such a blessing to have Christian teachers and staff to answer tough questions, give comfort and support, and be good role models. --I'm glad I went to St. John from 6th to 8th grade instead of a public middle school. That is such an awkward age. I'm glad I was surrounded with a positive environment to make an easier transition. --St. John offers sports and musical instruments in 5th grade, giving the student four years of practice and growth before high school. --Going to school and growing up beside other Christian kids encouraged and strengthened my faith. --I still remember memory verses that I learned at St. John and use them to comfort me during hard times. --I'm a three sport athlete at high school. My favorite sport's memory is still my 8th grade basketball season and winning the state championship. --Learning bits of Spanish each year prepared me for taking Spanish in high school. From the instruction I received, I was able to start high school in a second year Spanish class. --I still take notes the way Mr. Niemann taught me in science class. --St. John made me strong and sure in my faith. This preparation has helped me firmly defend my faith at my public high school. --St. John offers fun classes like band, choir, art, and computer. --Computer class taught me how to use programs such as Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel as well as improve my typing skills. I have used this knowledge in high school. Good computer skills are becoming a necessity. --A classroom of 28 was a perfect size. It was big enough to have a variety of kids but small enough to form strong, lasting friends. The friends I've made at St. John are still some of my best friends today. St. John School for me was family. Teachers are always there to teach you something new, and are there if you have problems with anything. Sports were a big part of my time at St. John and benefited me in a way that I will never forget. For vacations, we took class trips to anywhere imaginable, even Washington D.C. As for brothers and sisters, you have your classmates, all of whom are very close to me. Ultimately, St. John prepared me for what lies ahead and was an experience that changed me and made me a better person. Andrew – 2004 St. John graduate, now at Central High School
