A Solid FoundationAt St. John, we strive to help parents lay the foundations for their children’s futures. Our caring and committed staff seeks to provide for the spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of each individual child. As a school we are grounded in the Word of God and committed to providing an outstanding education for each child in preschool through eighth grade.
Why a Christian School?We believe that the spiritual growth of children is an important part of their overall development. We provide students with a safe environment to learn about the Christian faith and develop their own personal relationship with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This commitment to developing the faith of our students and families is the reason for, and the primary function of, our school.
The purpose of our school is to provide a Christian education so that our children may:
- develop as children in God's kingdom through God's Word and Spirit;
- know God and the forgiving love He offers them through Jesus Christ;
- respond to His grace by witnessing with lives of Christian faith, worship, service, love, forgiveness, and hope;
- relate to His creation by acquiring knowledge and understanding;
- develop talents and skills for responsible living and serving.
Motivated and Caring TeachersThe faculty at St. John consists of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers who provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment. Their expertise and knowledge help all students learn and achieve to their greatest potential. Our teachers are certified by the State of Illinois, and many of them hold Masters degrees. They serve as excellent Christian role models for students and parents.
Our teachers provide all the essential tools to help children master concepts, giving one-on-one attention when necessary. This may include offering additional assistance for some students or providing advanced and enrichment opportunities for those students who need an academic challenge.
Through the services of Champaign Unit 4 School District, we have access to personnel who can administer special assessments to help identify children with special educational needs. Unit 4 also provides the specialists who can assist children in achieving their educational goals.
Our HistoryLocated on about nine acres of land in Champaign, our church building has been on the present site since 1959. In 1983 St. John School began its ministry with five portable buildings. Our current building on the corner of Mattis and John was constructed in 1988. A multi-purpose facility, which includes our gymnasium, locker rooms, stage, and music room, was added in 1995. Funds raised by the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) enabled us to add a new playground in the summer of 2006.
