Why a Christian School?

Most parents would jump at the opportunity to guarantee a desirable future for their children --- a comfortable life, a faithful family, perfect health, etc.  Although we cannot ensure perfection, we can guide them to a more perfect relationship with God.  The home is the institution where the commitment to Christ begins.  The Christian school is a complement to, not a substitute for, the home.  It is our belief that together we can lay the foundations for your child’s future.

Motivated and Caring Teachers

The faculty at St. John consists of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers who provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.  They serve as excellent Christian role models.  Their expertise and knowledge help all students learn and achieve to their greatest potential.  Our teachers are certified by the State of Illinois, and several of them hold a Masters degree in Education.

Our teachers provide all the essential tools to help children master concepts, giving one-on-one attention when necessary.  This may include offering additional assistance for some students or providing advanced and enrichment opportunities for those students who need an academic challenge.

Through the services of Champaign Unit 4 School District, we have access to personnel who can administer special assessments to help identify children with special educational needs.  Unit 4 also provides the specialists who can assist children in achieving their educational goals.

Our History

Located on about nine acres of land in Champaign, our church building has been on the present site since 1959.  In 1983 St. John School began its ministry with five portable buildings.  Our current building on the corner of Mattis and John was constructed in 1988.   A multi-purpose facility, which includes our gymnasium, locker rooms, stage, and music room, was added in 1995.    Funds raised by the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) enabled us to add a new playground in the summer of 2006.
