Our goal is to provide students with a solid education and ample opportunities to become problem solvers, independent thinkers, and responsible citizens.
In addition to the core subjects of Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, instruction in Religion is taught daily in the classroom and once a week in morning Chapel.
A state-of-the-art computer lab provides computer training in basic skills as well as applications that are useful for high school, college, and beyond.
All students in kindergarten through eighth grade receive specialized instruction in the following areas:
- Spanish
- Physical Education
- Art
- Music
- Choir
SCIENCE
St. John Lutheran School includes the following among its purposes and objectives:
- Help each child relate to God's creation by acquiring knowledge and understanding
- Encourage the development of time management skills, citizenship, and relationship skills
- Integrate the Christian faith throughout the curriculum
- Provide for instruction in all basic academic areas
Science is the quest for objective truth. It provides a conceptual framework for the understanding of natural phenomena and their causes and effects. We recognize that God created the universe and all its parts, and that He controls all the laws of nature; therefore, we guide the students toward interpreting scientific data in light of God's Word and His governance. (In a sense, Science is the study of God's mind!)
Our science curriculum has been divided into the following categories:

As a result of their schooling, the students should be able to:
- Recognize/identify the patterns and orderliness which God has created in the natural and physical world
- Recognize the characteristics of plant and animal communities
- Identify characteristics of energy and matter
- Identify the cause and effect relationship as observed in the natural and physical world
- Apply scientific principles to explain or solve problems
- Record observations objectively using precise scientific information
- Formulate hypotheses, inferences, or predictions and verify them using proper scientific procedure
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in the environment and report evidences of God's orderliness and
- concern for nature
- Practice good stewardship in the way they care for God's creation
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
We recognize the importance of extra curricular activities and the role they play in enriching our students’ lives.
The Athletic Program , which is available for students in fifth through eighth grade, places an emphasis on Christian fellowship, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. It includes the following sports:
- cross-country
- soccer
- volleyball
- basketball
- track & field
Beginning in the fifth grade, Band instruction is offered for beginning, intermediate and advanced skill levels.
Our Spelling Bee , Geography Bee, and Bible Bowl are opportunities for those students in grades 5-8 who excel in spelling, geography, and biblical knowledge.
Students in grades 6 – 8 have the opportunity to be elected to our Student Council which sponsors special activities and coordinates school events.
An After-School Program, run by the YMCA, is available to parents who need extended hours for child care. Fees are assessed by the Y.
