St. John Lutheran School Board Minutes
October 7th, 2008
The board convened at 6:30 PM with the following present:
Board Members: Larry Jacobsen, Jayne Wachtel, Steve Ruhlig, Jay Walker, Dan Martin, Chris Prom, Pastor Elliott
Others: Monica Taylor, Steve Ashwill, Julie Tappendorf, Christy Rivers
Meeting opened @ 6:30pm
Visitor Comments
- Steve Ashwill inquired about an electronic sign in front of the school. He expressed a negative opinion of purchasing an electronic sign. He expressed interest in being on the Marketing Committee.
Approval of MinutesMotion to approve September minutes M/S/C
PTF
- Written report presented.
- Car Wash – Due to rain, the goal was not met.
- Community Meeting – 2 new families were present.
- PTF Auction – Funds will possibly go towards a playground expansion project (not a large expansion).
- Pages for All Ages – Oct 25th thru Nov 2nd

Principal’s Report
- Written report presented.
- Enrollment – We are currently at 205 (203 last month) compared to 216 last year.
- Gettysburg Trip – Plans were finalized for the trip. The final payment was made to Happy Trails on September 14th.
- Projected Income – A report was presented showing anticipated and actual income.
Old Business
- NLSA – Nothing to report at this time
New Business
- Day Care Presentation – Christy Rivers presented a written report about a full time day care being a way to grow both the church and school. The report presented several Lutheran schools that also have full time day care. There are grants available to pursue from the Spenser Warren Foundation for LCMS congregations. Submissions are due by May.
Motion made that the School Board Chair appoint a task force to study the feasibility of pursuing the formation of a full time day care facility at St. John. M/S/C
Motion made to approve policy proposal 110 and 115 as proposed. M/S/C
Executive Session
Motion made to approve Rick Welch as the head basketball coach for the 5th/6th grade team for the 2008-2009 school year. M/S/C
