Jr. High P.E. (6th grade - 8th grade)
The goal throughout the year is to improve individual physical fitness. A main objective is that students gain more confidence in their physical abilities as they participate in various sports and game activities.
These would include the sports of soccer, softball, football (flag or touch), volleyball, basketball, and floor hockey. Other game activities such as eclipse ball, giant 4-square, steal the sticks, racket and base games, basketball knock-out and regular 4-square are also played.
Because skill levels vary greatly at this age, our emphasis is not on competition but on having fun, cooperating with classmates and enjoying physical activity.
All students are required to dress out for P.E. Proper dress includes a St. John P.E. shirt, black or dark blue sports shorts and shoes appropriate for the activity--clean gym shoes for times we are in the gym; outdoor athletic shoes for outside activities.
Students will be evaluated during each P.E. class for cooperation with fellow students as well as with the teacher.
Evaluation will also include attitude, participation, and effort as judged appropriate for each student’s individual ability coming into the class. Unexcused absences or not dressing for P.E. will also affect quarterly grades.
