MathIn math the students are introduced to counting from 0-30, number order, concepts of adding and subtracting, number writing, time, and money. We use different manipulatives (hands-on tools) to reinforce these concepts daily.
Language ArtsIn Language Arts the emphasis is on basic phonics, writing letters, name, and simple words.
ReadingThe students start off the year by listening to and understanding stories. They are introduced to new sight words each week and begin reading simple phrases and stories with fluency and comprehension.
Social StudiesThe students are introduced to basic map skills. We focus on the United States at the beginning of the year where the children learn about American landmarks, customs, and the different regions of the U.S. We spend time learning about the early and Native Americans too. We also study different cultures as the year progresses.
TechnologyKeyboarding and simple graphics
ScienceAnimals, human body, plants, seasons, weather, Astronomy, and water resources are our main topics in Science.
In Kindergarten we do theme studies. Most of our themes focus on science and/or social studies.
We also plan a variety of field tips that are tied into the themes we are learning about. Trips that we take may include: Curtis Apple Orchard, Hardy's Reindeer Ranch, American History Museum, Starkael Planetarium, and a zoo.
