St. John Lutheran School Board Minutes
July 1st, 2008
The board convened at 5:30 PM with the following present:
Board Members: Jayne Wachtel, Steve Ruhlig, Jay Walker, Ralph Leffler, Mark Pelafos, Dan Martin, Pastor Elliott, Chris Prom
Others: Monica Taylor, Renee Nagy, Lesley Ellison, Daniel Punkay, Paul Pyrz, Mary Stremming, Janine Greene, Chuck Martin
Meeting opened @ 5:30pm
Visitor Comments
- Renee Nagy commented about the size of the class and the Board’s motion. She read a letter (Copy given to Board members). Other visitors offered comments that echoed the same sentiments regarding the 1st grade class size. Being too large. Chuck Martin offered the Church Council’s concern with having two sections for 26-27 1st grade students. Steve Rhulig added that ultimately the Voters will decide the direction for enrollment and class sizes.

Marketing Committee
Principal’s Report
- No report
- Enrollment numbers – Presently @ 196 students w/ the possibility of 200 with kids that have not yet re-enrolled.

- Enrollment and Staffing Needs (K and 1st) – To be discussed later
New Business
Executive Session
- Motion made that we rescind our motion to recommend to Voters that the Board have the flexibility to hire an aide for Kindergarten if the enrollment numbers increase to 20. In addition, Principal Leffler will determine the levels for each grade next year, taking advice from the School Board. M/S/C
- Motion made that we inform the Voters that the School Board has heard the concerns of the Church Council about adding an aide for Kindergarten and that we have withdrawn that motion. We further plan not to add any additional staff for next year. Further we will ask Principal Leffler to recommend the best staffing allocation for next school year. M/S/C
- Motion made that we contract Laurie McDonald for the 2008/2009 school year for Little Lamb 3 year olds. M/S/C
