  • Enrollment – Our current enrollment numbers for 2008/2009 are 190 students. The enrollment numbers at the same time last year was 196.
  • NLEA Convocation – The teachers enjoyed a worthwhile NLEA Convocation that provided a strong sense of camaraderie for all that attended. It also helped inspire new ideas for moving forward.
  • 7th/8th Grade Play – The 7th and 8th grade class presented the plays of “Rapunzel” and “Jack and the Beanstalk”. The donations at the door raised approximately $600, which almost covered all the expenses incurred for the play.
  • Standard Achievement Tests – Students in 2nd through 8th grade took the Stanford tests between April 21 and 29th. Results will hopefully arrive before the end of school.
  • Open House – School tours and Open House were held on May 1st. The event was widely advertised and will hopefully garner some response from new potential families.
  • School Improvement Day – There will be early dismissal on May 7th at 11:30. Teachers will spend the afternoon with Greg DeYoung training on the new laptop computers.
  • Field Trip Plan – The 7th and 8th grade classes will take a field trip to Shedd Aquarium on May 23rd. This type of field trip will better serve the students from an educational standpoint.
  • Kindergarten Screening – Staff members will screen incoming students on the morning of May 28th. This screening will be beneficial in determining any special needs that may be necessary.
  • Awards Day Assembly – An Awards Day will be held right after Chapel on the last day of school. Students will be recognized for their various achievements throughout the school year.
  • Gettysburg Trip – A letter was sent to the parents of the 7th grade students informing them of the financial status of the Gettysburg fund. As of now, $12,000 has been raised to offset the estimated $13,000 for cost of the trip.

Old Business

  • The Finance Board rejected the credit card proposal due to lack of interest from parents.

New Business

  • Enrollment – The school has a total capacity of 321 students.
  • Discussion ensued about how to handle the enrollment and staffing in kindergarten and 1st grade for next school year. The Board will continue to monitor and address at the next Board Meeting.

Motion made to recommend to Church Council that Steve Ruhlig serve Ralph Patzke’s remaining 2 years of his School Board term. M/S/C

Respectfully submitted,
Jay Walker
