A. Renee Nagy opened with devotions and prayer.
B. Business Meeting:
1. Karen Rohrer requested addition of Tami Crawford as present for 9/25/07 meeting. M/S/C
to accept the minutes from 10/23/07.
2. Treasurer’s Report: Linda Prom reviewed Treasurer’s Report
dated 11/25/07. Total balance is $24,725.42. Since there is no December meeting the
teachers will need a reminder to spend remaining allocations prior to the
2/1/08 deadline. M/S/C to accept the Treasurer’s
Report.
3. Volunteer Coordinator: Laurie McDonald has
reminded Room Representatives of teacher’s birthdays. Parent Teacher Conference lunch chaired by
Tracy Brookshire went well. December
Teacher/Staff treats will be provided by Ann Welch. Julie Tappendorf suggested changing Teacher/Staff
treats from the first Friday of the month to the first Wednesday of the month
to coincide with the staff meeting and also utilize leftovers for the remainder
of the week. The group agreed the change
would be good and Laurie will adjust the dates for the remainder of the school
year.
4. Committee Reports:
A. Book Fair Pages for All Ages-RESULTS: Faith
Block reported that the Book Fair from 10/27-11/04/07 at Pages earned $312.41.
B. Box Tops for Education-RESULTS: Faith Block
reported that $800-$900 was earned in the Fall Box Tops collection. Susan Mihm has mailed the Box Tops for
redemption. Mrs. Haase’s First Grade was
the winner of the Ice Cream Party.
C. Kirby Foods/HVC/County Market: Leah Seten discussed the timing
of the potential Box Tops bonus from County Market.
D. Logo Items: No report from Michelle
DeYoung. Ideas for selling opportunities
were discussed.
E. Market Day: Diane Pelafos reported on the November Pie Sale to benefit the 7th
grade efforts to raise funds for their Gettysburg Trip. Sales totaled 310 pies earning $852.50 plus a
$50 donation for a total of $902.50 on the pie portion of the sale. YTD Market Day net profit is approximately
$1,455. December paper orders are due 12/14/07
and pickup will be 12/19/07. December
will feature cookie dough. We will not
promote this for 6th grade fundraising; potential 6th
grade fundraising ideas were discussed.
F. Teacher Conference: Renee Nagy discussed ideas
for improving child care during evening Parent Teacher conferences: larger or 2 rooms, games for older children,
coloring materials, adult volunteers and pre-registration to have adequate
volunteers.
G. Ice Skating: Leah Seten will post signage
for the 12/10/07 event and notice will be given in the weekly newsletter. Payment needs to be made to the UI Ice Arena.
H. Schoolpop: Mary Slack reported that the 3rd
quarter rebate will be paid soon and contact will be made to families receiving
tuition credit so that they may adjust their final tuition payment. The total amount anticipated is more than
$700.
I. Fun Fair/Fun Fair Prizes: Leah Seten is in charge of the 3/01/08 event.
Silent Auction baskets will again be
prepared by each class. There are plans
to upgrade the meal with Mary Slack, Lynn Marassa and Chip Garth working on the
meal. Laurie McDonald will order prizes
in December and has plans to use up previous years’ prizes.
J. SCRIP: Karen Rohrer thanked all who had worked
to get the program up and running.
Laurie McDonald and Linda Prom reported that the 3rd order
was collected 11/27/07 with 12-15 families participating and over $5,000 in
purchases. A locking box has been
purchased for $87 for orders, approved by the Trustees and will be mounted
outside of the school office by Steve Haase.
There was discussion concerning the adequacy of the $1 fee and shorter
turn-around time for purchases to enable shopping of weekly sales ads.
5. Reports from congregational representatives:
A. Ron Sexton spoke at the beginning of the meeting about a Recognition Tree/Gifting
Tree. The ‘tree’ is made of bronze and
could be mounted on a wall. Leaves could
be purchased for $1,000 and stones beneath the tree could be purchased for
$15,000 (suggested amounts). The funds
could be used as contingency or endowment funds for the school. Each leaf or stone would be engraved for free
by Ron and could be ‘In Memory Of’ or something similar. Initial cost of the tree would be $3,472;
other similar options are available.
B. Renee Nagy read a thank you note from Ronda Craig for recent purchases with PTF
funds.
6. Principal’s Report: Mr. Leffler reported that enrollment is now 217 with the addition of a
kindergarten student. The Band travelled
to Eastern Illinois University
on 11/15/07 to be videotaped for Season’s Greetings. The Bible Bowl with grades 5-8 participating
was 11/17/07 in Springfield
with each team placing 2nd.
The Geography Bee for grades 5-8 will be 11/30/07. Midterms for grades 4-8 will be sent home
12/07/07. The Barnes & Noble Book
Fair will be 12/08/07 from 1-4 with teachers Bonnie Lynch, Dan Yagow and
Christy Rivers acting as guest readers.
The Spelling Bee for grades 5-8 will be 12/14/07. The School Christmas program will be
12/18//07 at 6:30. The last day of
school before Christmas break is 12/19/07 and school will resume 1/03/08. The end of the 2nd quarter is 1/11/08. There will be no school on
1/21/08 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and 1/22/08 for School Improvement
Day. The new school sign has been
ordered from American Dowel. The type
matches the John Street
sign and will be placed left of the school entrance. A new web site is being developed by Michelle
DeYoung at www.stjohnls.com. The
new link re-directs to the old web site but the new site will be up and running
soon. The School Board is finalizing
changes in the tuition amount and payment schedule for the next school
year. These items will be presented at
the 12/09/07 Voter’s Meeting for approval.
It is proposed that Kindergarten students will register in March and
returning students will register in May.
The deposit will be due the month of registration with the10 remaining
payments due from June through the following March. There will be a request to increase the
school marketing budget. There was
discussion concerning the timing of the School Open House and hosting a
Kindergarten Open House. There is a new
sign at the Market Place Mall advertising the school.
7. New Business:
A. Teacher & Staff Christmas Gifts: The
full-time teachers will receive $25 and the part-time teachers and other staff
will receive $15 for a total of $535.
Checks will be prepared and distributed by Linda Prom during the first
week of December. M/S/C.
