Parent Teacher Fellowship

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

PTF Board Members Present: Renee Nagy, Karen Rohrer, Monica Taylor, Linda Prom, Julie Tappendorf, Laurie McDonald, Ralph Leffler, Tricia Morenz.

PTF Board Members Absent:  Faith Block, Lynn Marassa.

Others Present:  Tami Crawford, Angie Fenwick, Michelle DeYoung, Leah Seten, Diane Pelafos, Wendy Walters.  

  1. Renee Nagy opened with devotions and prayer.
  2. Business Meeting:
    1. M/S/C to accept minutes from 01/29/2008 with three corrections.  In the Principal’s Report it should state; it is being considered that the deposit will be due in April for the school year 2009-2010.  In the Principal’s Report, Stated should be State.   In Scrip report; quarterly statements will be in March, June, September, and December.
    2. Principal's Report: Mr. Leffler stated that enrollment is now 220.  Packets for enrollment for next school year are being sent home on 2/27/2008 with students.  The St. John School Open House will be from 5-7 on the 28th of February.  A $300 credit will be provided for any family that is responsible for recruiting another family to the school, and who stays enrolled for the whole year.  March 14th will be the end of the 3rd quarter, students will return to school on March 25th.  The K-5 reading series was approved for the next school year; the program is through Pearson-Scott-Foreman.  Mr. Leffler announced that he was offered and accepted the position of Principal for the school year 2008-2009.
    3. Treasurer's Report:  Linda Prom reviewed the treasurer’s report.  M/S/C to accept Treasure’s report.
    4. Volunteer Coordinator’s Report:  Laurie McDonald stated she is currently working on getting enough volunteers for the Fun Fair. Next Wednesday Dawn Carmichael will be providing birthday treats for the teachers.
    5. Committee Reports:
      1. Box Tops for Education: No final count.
      2. Fun Fair: Leah Seten reported there would not be the obstacle course or large slide at the fun fair this year. Discussed what events would be offered in each class room. The fourth grade will be hosting face painting, book with ideas were presented.
      3. Kirby Foods/HVC/County Market: In February it was reported St. John School was 1 of the top 20 schools with County Market. St. Johns can expect to receive a total of around $500 with box tops and Campbells soups labels.
      4. Logo Items: Decision made to have logo items available for sale at the Fun Fair.
      5. Market Day: Diane Pelafos reported the projected profit for sale is $335. Next Market Day sale is on the 2nd of April; stated there needs to be a minimum of 50 orders for a sale. Extra products are available for sale; see Diane Pelafos for details.
      6. Monical’s Pizza Night: Tami Crawford reported a profit of $234.55 for the Monical’s Pizza Night. Discussion of possibly using Village Inn next year for the event. Mrs. Hasse was the winner of the drawing.
      7. Plant Sale: Karen Rohrer reported she bought 400 gift cards to be sold for the Danville Gardens Plant Sale. The cards are for $10.00, and were bought for $7.00, with a profit of $3.00 for every card sold. Cards will be sold in April and May.
      8. SchoolPop: Diane Pelafos reported in the absence of Mary Slack. 16 families received $900 for tuition reduction. 4 of the 16 families received over $100 each.
      9. Scrip: Scrip and SchoolPop credit statments will be sent home in enrollment packets. $954.91 was credited to families, the PTF will receive a check for $135. 57, with a total of $1090.48 in earnings from Scrip sales.
    6. Reports from Staff, Parents, and Congregation: None.
    7. Old Business
      1. Parent Teacher Conference Childcare: Childcare was provided, there were a low number of children that were watched.
      2. Lutheran Schools Week: Previously discussed in meeting. One additional note; every student and teacher will receive a wooden cross to wear.
      3. Nominating Committee for 2008-2009 PTF Board: Karen Rohrer contacted individuals regarding their interest in continuing to participate. Discussion on outreach to Alumni to encourage them to keep involved with the school.
      4. Allocations: Two allocations have been received from teachers, waiting for other teachers to respond.
      5. Open House: Karen Rohrer created PTF posters for display at the Open House. The posters included information on the goals of the PTF, etc.
    8. New Business
      1. Grandparents/Special Friends Breakfast: Kindergarten Room Representatives are currently working on this activity.
      2. Procedures for submitting PTF content to School’s Website: All PTF information to be included on website is to be submitted through Monica Taylor.
  3. Karen Rohrer adjourned the meeting with prayer.
