FAITH HOURS

A big thank you is extended to all the families who have donated their time and talents to St. John School this year.  We are fortunate to have so very many families who give selflessly.  However, our records indicate that some families still need to complete the required number of hours to fulfill their FAITH obligation to the school.  We are beginning the last month of the school year, and time is limited for those who need additional tasks.  Please be reminded that during the first week in June, the school office will be sending statements to those families who have not fulfilled the required number of hours, at a rate of $20.00 per hour.

SPANISH CLASS

Next week in our Spanish class grades Kindergarten – Eighth grade will have a taste of quesadillas and a craft activity called papel picado.

To be able to do the activity we need a donation of $2.00 to buy corn/flour tortillas, cheese, drinks and tissue paper.  Please bring your $2.00 with you to Spanish class.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Spanish Teacher – Martina Miranda-Lugo

TRANSPORTATION REIMBURSEMENT FORMS

Transportation Reimbursement forms are still in the school office for another few weeks.  Any family who lives farther than 1 ½ miles from school is encouraged to sign up for this reimbursement. Children who are current Kindergarten – 8th grade students may be claimed.

RELAY FOR LIFE

The Relay for Life team is having another Village Inn day on Monday, May 5th.  Please print out the attached flier and take it with you to Village Inn.  Fliers are also available in the school office and on the Narthex table.  The Flier will need to be presented to the cashier at the time of your order.  Thrivent Financial is making a $500.00 donation to the Relay for Life on behalf of our St. John Team. If you would like to make a personal donation to the Relay for Life or purchase a luminaria in honor of or in memory of someone, please see one of the following people:  Susan Mihm, Bonnie Lynch, Carol Niemann, Faith Block, Ralph Leffler, Renae Leffler, Myron Ochs, Jean Niemann, Renee Nagy, Tracy Brookshire, Dan Yagow, Deaconess Kim Bueltmann or Pam Haase.  The team values your support.

Students and Teachers can also contribute to our team on Tuesday, May 13th for the privilege of wearing a hat for a donation of $1 or wearing flip-flops or open-back shoes for a donation of $2.  The Relay for Life is 6pm Saturday, May 17th - 6am Sunday, May 18th at Centennial High School.  For more information, contact Pam Haase 352.6008 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

ST JOHN YARD SIGNS

Spring is hopefully here to stay and it is time to dig out and display your St. John yard sign. Let’s try to let new families know about St. John by showing our school pride.

The Birthday Book Club has added more new members: Nate E., Robbie M., and Allie P..  Some of their good friends helped to celebrate their classmate’s birthdays also.  Billy S. gave a book to both Nate and Robbie, and Graham O. chose a great book for Robbie.  Four Birthday Book Club books were presented to Pastor Don Ehlers in honor of his wife, Marlyn Ehlers’ birthday.  These books were from Karen, Dan, Joseph and Jordan R.; Pastor and Mrs. Ehlers’ daughter, son-in-law and grandsons.  We hope that all of you enjoyed your birthdays and your new books!

Recently book donations were brought in by Samantha B., Faye D., Kassandra E., Paul and Suzanne H., Jolie T., Jan B., Jamie E., Dorothy E., and Deaconess Kim.  Thank you very much for your generosity to our school library!

Thursday, May 1 will be the last day this school year for students to check out books from the library.  Due to very responsible students, almost all of the loaned books have come back each week.  Please continue to look for the books not returned yet.  I will be in the library each Thursday for several more weeks.

PENNIES FOR THE PROTECTORS

All school children in the area have been asked to collect donations for the Fire and Police Memorial to be built in West Side Park in Champaign.  We feel that this is a worthwhile community-based service project.  Please bring your donations to school and drop them in the large “Pennies for the Protectors” container in the school office.

A WORD OF THANKS

Mrs. Schilling and Mrs. Walker would like to thank the teachers and students who came up to the office to wish us Happy Secretaries Day by singing or by bringing special hand written notes and pictures to us.  You made our day special.
