Visitor Comments

  • Greg stated that we received quotes from Dell for laptop computers for the teachers and placed an order. March is the timeframe anticipated for handing them out to the teachers. They will be loaded with the same software as the computer lab computers.
  • Chuck Martin commented about the financial status of the church. We need to monitor costs closely and look at tuition and/or increasing enrollment.

Approval of Minutes

  • Motion to approve January minutes with noted typo revisions. M/S/C

PTF

  • Written report presented.
  • The talent show was a big success with the spaghetti dinner.
  • Scrip Update - $833 in tuition credit from October thru January.
  • Danville Garden gift cards will be sold instead of a plant sale.

Marketing Committee

  • Stationery is in.
  • Signage – American Dowell is waiting on the cross to be delivered. American Dowell will be working on ideas for signage by the door.
  • Whitford Consultants – Surveys will be passed out at Open House to gauge parental opinions on the school. This will provide insight as to the direction to take.
  • Brochures – Sample brochure in process.
  • Open House will be held on 2/28. Working on media to announce the event. Banners will be hung in many locations in an effort to advertise.
  • Consider “Information Night” where parents are introduced to teachers and school board members.

Principal’s Report

  • Written report presented.
  • New teachers are doing very well.
  • Chocolate Night was held on January 31 from 5:30-6:30 with 17 families and 20 children in attendance.
  • Reading Presentations – Teachers teaching K-5 reading are looking at new reading materials from various publishers.
  • Illinois Textbook Loan Program – St. John has had $4,345.09 in funds allocated for the purchase of new textbooks. Our request will need to be submitted by March 15th.
  • Tuition Status – The Board discussed one family with an outstanding debt of $2,888 that has been unsuccessfully collected. The family has shown no good faith up to this point by paying towards the debt. Mr. Leffler feels that the board needs to establish a timeline that payment needs to be met or there will be the consequence of dismissing the child from school. The board feels that Mr. Leffler needs to indicate that 50% ($1,444) should be paid by 2/15/08, unless there are extenuating circumstances. The board also feels that full payment needs to be made by 2/29/08, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Old Business

  • Motion made to pursue the accreditation for NLSA M/S/C
  • Tuition Credit – Policy proposed is similar to Judah Christian’s policy.
  • Motion made to accept the revised incentive for new student recruitment (See revision below) M/S/C

Incentive for New Student Recruitment

  • St. John School parents who recruit new families with students in kindergarten through eighth grade will receive a $300 tuition credit per family recruited.  The new family must identify the family who recruited them on the enrollment application.  If the recruiting family is not identified on the enrollment application at the time of enrollment, the recruiting family may not receive this benefit.  This tuition credit will be applied to the last tuition payment of the school year (January 2009 for 2008-2009 school year), or applied to a designated fund of the church or school, if the new family remains enrolled through that time.

New Business

Respectfully submitted,
Jay Walker
