Chapel offering for Oct. 24 is 5 regular pencils.

NOVEMBER LUNCH MENU

On the November lunch menu it states that there is no school on November 8th. There is actually a
half day of school with dismissal at 11:30; therefore no lunch is served that day.

FILM CONTAINERS NEEDED

Please save your 8mm film containers and bring them to the school office. Our supply is getting low
as they serve as a perfect transporter for teeth that are lost at school.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

St. John Lutheran School will be participating in a Jump Rope For Heart event during the two weeks
of October 22 to 26 and October 29 to November 2. This is a community service program sponsored
by the American Heart Association.
The students will………..
1. learn two lessons in the classroom related to a healthy lifestyle. Taking care of our heart
will be the focus.
2. participate in two P.E. activities that encourage aerobic exercise.
Again the heart will be our focus.
3. be given the opportunity to seek financial support for the American Heart Association in the
organization’s effort to reduce and avoid heart disease and stroke. This part is optional.
However contributions are welcomed and include several incentives:
• Students can earn prizes as listed on the envelope. Additionally, there are prizes
that include the “Hoops for Heart” program as well. The top five fundraisers will get
an opportunity to see an Indiana Pacers basketball game in April.
• The school will receive free P.E. equipment based on the school-wide contribution
level.
• Students achieving contributions of $75 or more will become members of the
Subway Club. These students will be awarded a Subway party during the month of
November.

Our School Goal is $3500. Last year we raised $3125.
We ask that the students not go door to door in this campaign. Rather we encourage gifts that come
from family members and friends via in person, by computer, or by phone. Have the checks made
payable to American Heart Association. Date due is Friday, November 2. The American Heart
Association is very thankful of your efforts. Donations are tax deductible.

To create more awareness for this cause, the school will have a Heart Honor Wall to honor and
memorialize victims of heart conditions or disease. The Honor Wall will be displayed along a wall
near the entrance of the fellowship hall. Perhaps your child can register a name of someone they
know that could be honored in this event. The St. John staff will be honoring Mr. John Lynch in our
support of his cardiovascular challenges.
Sincerely,
Mr. Dan Yagow, Coordinator

St. John Parent Teacher Fellowship Happenings

ANNOUNCING 'SCRIP'

What is SCRIP? SCRIP is a tuition reimbursement program. When parents, grandparents,
friends purchase SCRIP gift cards, they are purchasing negotiable gift cards (not a credit card) that
may be used just like cash. National and local retailers use these gift cards where our families
already shop. These merchants want to support the schools, and in return ask you to support them
by shopping with SCRIP at their stores. The individuals who sign up with SCRIP through St. John
can use SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses such as food, clothing, gas, etc. These individuals
can then earn revenue for a designated child's tuition with every purchase. (Anywhere from 2% -
25% of each purchase is returned to the designated child's tuition account, therefore reducing the
amount of tuition paid out of pocket.)

In order for this exciting, innovative program to succeed, St. John is in need of a few faithful
volunteers on a regular monthly basis to assist with the administration of this program. Please
contact Laurie McDonald at 355-8511 if you would be able to donate a few hours of your time once
each month. Your service would allow this program to succeed, be a great way to earn F.A.I.T.H.
hours, be a huge benefit to our families, and possibly be a factor in helping bring new families to our
school.
